Quality of life assessment in patients with colorectal (rectum) cancer
The purpose of this study was to estimate clinical parameters and quality of life of 111 patients with
colorectal (rectum) cancer I-III stages, who underwent radical operative interventions. To assess quality of life the specifi c questionnaire was developed.
It included 30 questions which formed 5 scales. During the comparative evaluation of the quality of life and the functional results it was determined that the preservation of the sigmoid-colon sphincter of Moutier-Rossi during the frontal resection of the rectum and the preservation of the sigmo-rectal sphincter of O'Beirne-Pirogov-Moutier during the low frontal resection of the rectum made it possible to improve the reservoir (accumulative) function and the quality of life of patients in all the time-points of the study.
It was shown that preservation of above mentioned physiological sphincters during the organ-preserving resections does not lead to the worsening of the distant results of treatment and leads to improved quality of life.
