Clinical and psychological factors that may result in reduction of quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) were analyzed. 1000 DM2 patients on insulin therapy were included in the analysis. It was shown that late complications of diabetes, comorbidities and type of hypoglycemia are the most significant factors that have negative impact on physical, psychological and social functioning of DM2patients.

The presence of at least one of the above factors leads to a significant reduction in integral quality of life index. Risk factors of impaired quality of life in DM2 patients оn basal-bolus insulin therapy include late complications of diabetes, comorbidities, episodes of severe and nocturnal hypoglycemia, fear of hypoglycemia, the presence of pronounced psychological symptoms, the presence of pronounced symptoms of hypoglycemia. The presence of at least one of these factors is accompanied with increased risk of impairment of integral quality of life index and may point to reduction of adaptive capacity in DM2 patients.
