Quality of life of children in remission of lymphoid and hematopoietic malignancies in Crimea

It was investigated the life quality (QoL) in children with remission of lymphoid and hematopoietic malignancies in the Republic of Crimea. The studied group of children (n=50) finished an intensive combination chemotherapy protocols: ALLIC-BFM-2002 and ALLIC-BFM-2009 for the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), Rez-ALL-BFM-2003 for the treatment of ALL relapse, DAL-HD-95 and NHL-DGLU-2000 for the treatment of lymphomas.
Assessment of QoL was conducted with the questionnaire International Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedQL) Generic Core Scale according to scales: physical, emotional, social functioning and school life. Children pre-school group is the most vulnerable. QoL in children with hematological malignancies was impaired by 22 % due to emotional dysfunction as compared to the group of healthy children.
Effective assistance of child psychologist - psychiatrist is needed during hospital treatment and post-hospital stage. The total scores of QoL in the groups of age 8–12 years and 13–18 years did not differ significantly from healthy children, however, critically low level of School life was observed in the group of 8-12 years boys. Families of children with a history of hematological malignancies need the psychological support.
The rehabilitation center for children with blood malignancies in the Republic of Crimea should resolve both physiological and psychosocial rehabilitation problems. QoL research is necessary to compare the results of treatment of lymphoid and hematopoietic system malignancies of children in the Republic of Crimea with data of other regions of Russia to determine the optimal method of treatment.
